TAGGIES™ Teams With Mary Meyer To Produce A New
Patented Plush Line For Children
SPENCER, Mass (May 31, 2005) – Joining forces with one of
the most revered brand names in the world of children’s products,
Taggies, Inc. has reached an agreement with the plush powerhouse,
Mary Meyer, to create a new licensed line of lovable products trimmed
with the Taggies patented concept : those satiny, looped ribbon
tags that babies and kids love to rub.
Started by two moms who met at their toddlers’ playgroup,
Taggies has grown in its five-year history to more than $3 million
in annual sales from its Spencer, Massachusetts, headquarters.
Mary Meyer, founded in 1933 and based in Townsend, Vermont, is
one of the major plush toymakers in the United States, with a product
line of more than 400 different designs.
“We’re so excited about this wonderful opportunity
to unite with Mary Meyer, which is such an eminent and well-regarded
organization in the industry, and one that so completely shares
our fundamental values,” said Julie Dix, who created the
first Taggie® to amuse and comfort her toddler. “Both
companies are committed to our New England roots, to making the
finest products, and to doing business as if everyone were our
neighbors. So it’s a natural match, and one that all of us
are totally thrilled to make!”
The first fruits of the Mary Meyer-Taggies collaboration are expected
to reach store shelves in October, well in advance of the holiday
rush. Designers are already at work, integrating the playful Mary
Meyer spirit with the tactile, unique focus that characterizes
Taggies blankets, toys and books. The Mary Meyer association marks
the second venture in which Taggies has joined with a leading company
to create new licensed products. Scholastic Inc., the giant publishing
company, sells two Taggies books, “My First Taggies® Book:
I Love You” and “My First Taggies® Book: Sweet
Dreams.“ A third, “My First Taggies® Book: Princess,” is
set for release in November.
Mary Meyer/Taggies products will be available in retail stores
nationwide and on the Mary Meyer and Taggies websites, Dix said. “We’ve
had terrific success with this approach in the past, and we believe
the traffic and cross marketing generated by these new products
will lead to increased sales of other core Taggies items,” said
Dix, who with her business partner, Danielle Ayotte, shares management
of the company they created together.
All Taggies products meet or exceed all voluntary standards and
mandatory regulations set by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
and American Society for Testing and Materials for children's blankets
and toys, in addition to meeting Canadian and European standards.
The Taggies product line includes small and large fleece blankets,
plush toys, pillows, baby booties, travel toys, crib sets and the
soft-cover Scholastic books "My First Taggies Book: Sweet
Dreams" and “My First Taggies Book: I Love You.” The
company’s Random Acts of Kindness program brings Taggies
blankets to ill or impoverished children.
Taggies products are sold at more than 3,000 independent specialty
shops throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland,
and through more than a dozen catalogs, including Red Envelope
and Lillian Vernon. Both Scholastic Taggies Books are sold at Wal-Mart,
Target, Toys R Us, Borders, Barnes & Noble and other mass marketers.
Taggies products may be ordered online at www.taggies.com and by
phone at 1-877-4-TAGGIE.
